The Truth: About “Change of Season Flu”

 The monsoons are here in Mumbai and everyone seems to be catching the flu. The explanation I am given most times is “it’s in the air.”

The truth is that “IT” meaning germs and virus are always in the air, different types in different seasons, and Nature knows this from the very beginning.

That’s why God/nature/universe whatever you call it, built into man’s body a line of defense to protect him from being destroyed by an unfriendly environment. The body’s defenses are skin, mucous membranes, friendly bacteria, tear glands, fever, lymphatic system, fighter cells, and the immune system. The immune system contains about a trillion cells called lymphocytes and about 100 trillion molecules called antibodies. These cells provide protection against all microscopic enemies seeking to attack the body.

The Truth: It is only when our immune system is down, do we get sick with season change.

We build our immune system by eating raw food and drinking the juices of raw fruits/vegetables, staying hydrated and exercising!!!

We immobilize our immune system by putting harmful substances into our body!!!

For example:  white table sugar (which is literally a drug), paralyzes the immune system. Just nine teaspoons of sugar (one soda pop contains 10), in a day will immobilize the immune system by about 33%, while approximately 30 teaspoons of sugar will wipe out the immune system from even functioning that day.

High fat intake, white table salt, Alcohol, cigarettes, refined and processed food, Caffeine and basically anything that is made artificially seriously impairs the immune systems functions.

All pharmaceutical drugs and pain killers adversely affect the immune system as well.

So check your own nutrition intake before passing the buck.

Apart from this, what is also important to understand is that all the hype that western medicine has created of a fever being a sickness or a viral infection is untrue.

It is important to understand that sometimes your body needs to fight infections using fever. A fever occurs when the body faces a threat from virus or bacteria and need to eliminate it from your system by killing it. We know that germs growing in cultures die if you turn up the temperature too much. The same is happening in your body when your brain turns up the temperature when you get sick. Getting a fever is an important part of your body’s defense against infection.

“Fever is the doctor at work, not the problem”. Fever is part of the immune system that needs to be complimented with rest and hydration, not supplemented with paracetamols to reduce the fever and antibiotics to kill the germs/virus because that’s exactly what the fever is there to do if you only allow it to.

It’s hard to believe, but for flu the best remedy is EAT LIGHT, REST and HYDRATE.

EAT LIGHT: This is to avoid excess load on the body while it does the healing. Digestion takes up a lot of energy and slows down the healing process. Eat more raw foods and less cooked.

REST: the fact that you feel weak, is your body telling you it has no spare energy to give you, so respect that and stay put in bed for a day or two or three max.

Last but not the least

HYDRATE : It is important to increase fluid intake(fruit/vegetable juices & water) when you have a fever, since it increases evaporation of water from your body and you could get dehydrated, which then further increases the fever causing you to believe that it is out of your control.

The Truth: About Weight Loss

This article is about me. It is about how I spent years trying to lose weight and most importantly, it is about what I discovered on this journey.

The two most important things I learnt were:

 

  • “It is your “perception” of weight loss that is the    deciding factor of whether you will succeed in loosing weight permanently or not.”
  • “if being slim/lean and sexy is your goal, your most likely to fail, and even if you do succeed, it carries with it severe health complications which will accentuate, if the weight goes.”

 

To understand this better; here is how it happened to me:

When I moved to New York I was 52 kilos and my height is 5’4”. Over a period of 5 years, I had gained 30 kilos and was 82 kilos..my struggle to lose weight had started in the 2nd year when I was 64 kilos and I had finally panicked!!

I started off by joining a gym, and decided to eat salads, which to me meant death, but I had to do it, because I couldn’t be fat and not sexy. I believed that the only formula to losing weight was cardio and dieting (which to me meant starvation).

I battled on the inside to suppress cravings. I hated the gym, but I dragged myself there and ruthlessly punished my body trying to burn fat. To deal with this trauma I rewarded my self once a week and ate everything I was not supposed to in excess quantities to feel good. Before I knew it I was 70 kilos by the end of year 3.

Now all I thought of was my fat, I became obsessed with myself and with loosing weight, my life revolved around whether I was looking slim in what I was wearing, making sure everything was hidden, wearing the highest heels to lengthen the thighs, lots of makeup to make myself look sexy and the list goes on and on. Shopping became a task that I dreaded, looking slim was my only goal, and it affected my actions in every sphere of my life.

Anything or anyone that assured me weight loss was my best friend. In sheer desperation I even tried the Atkins diet, GM diet, diet shakes and weight loss pills to only realize that by year 5, I was 82 kilos.

In these 5 years my self esteem and morale had gone to an all time low. I couldn’t find the answers no matter how hard I tried, and this is where I would say karma intervened and as I destined my self to succeed at a subconscious level, I found myself giving up everything I had built in New York to start afresh in India.

It took me 5 years of research and study to finally crack the code. Having practiced all that I have learnt, I have shared it with 100’s of my clients.

Today I offer this to all those out there who want to be healthy slim and fit..

The First most important thing I learnt was:

  • It is your “perception” of weight loss that is the deciding factor of whether you will succeed in losing weight permanently or not.

By this I mean, that if you project constant hatred for your fat body, that’s exactly what you manifest. Read “The secret” or any such book that shows you how the mind works. Basically input=output

The Second most important thing I learnt was:

  • If being slim/lean and sexy is your goal, your most likely to fail, and even if you do succeed temporarily, it carries with it severe health complications which will accentuate over time, if the weight goes.

Vanity is my favorite sin too; however I learnt that the body only accumulates fat and water when the toxicity levels go up in the body. The body does this to protect you not to make you look fat or ugly. Your body loves you no matter what you think of it. The only reason there is a communication gap between you and your body is because the body is too advanced for your understanding and just as the body does not take your permission to circulate blood or make your heart beat. It takes the necessary actions to protect you till the very end.

So the obvious next question is “how do I reduce the toxicity in my body, so that no extra fat and water are required to be stored?”

The Answer to that:

  • Reduce consuming toxic products and toxic food.
  • Get to the root of where the toxicity is building up from.

Apart from toxic foods like packaged meats, processed foods, aerated drinks, pastries, cupcakes, refined oil, white rice, white sugar etc know that most medications, negative thoughts, stress and anxiety cause toxicity to build up as well. When a body is fat, know that it is unhealthy and dis-eased, and requires your serious attention. However it requires your attention to heal not to be vain. And the sooner you accept this reality the sooner you will achieve your goal of being slim.

I know it is difficult to refrain from all toxic foods, and be completely emotionally balanced with no baggage.

However the sooner you start the process, the sooner you will see results. There are a wide variety of great alternative therapies like yoga, naturotherapy, theta, homeopathy, hypnotherapy, life force healing etc that can aid you to start healing your mind body and soul.

Having found my balance with a combination of yoga, nutrition and hypnosis. I achieved a healthy body which in turn made me slim as no healthy body is ever fat!!

The Truth: About Common Cold

If you catch a cold every time you meet someone with a cold, does NOT make a cold contagious.

Contrary to what most people believe, the truth is that a Cold is NOT contagious. In laboratory experiments, mucus was passed from the nose of an “infected” individual to the nose of healthy ones, and it was found that they could not intentionally transmit the cold.

The truth is a Common Cold is caused mainly by exposure to two types of viruses, Rhinoviruses and Coronaviruses. These viruses are present in the surroundings everywhere, all the time. If the virus is present everywhere, all the time, how come everybody does not have a cold? How come the virus chooses to attack only you or a few?

The real cause of a Cold is the toxic condition of the body brought about by wrong eating habits such as excessive intake of dairy, starch, carbohydrates, junk food, acid-forming foods, lack of sleep, fatigue and allergic disorders of the nose and throat which weaken the immune system, the duration of the cold will depend on the amount of poisons accumulated in the body and the rapidity with which they are expelled.

A cold is nature’s simplest way of expelling toxic waste from the human system.

Most people are also unaware that there is still NO Allopathic cure for  a common cold, because there are more than 200 subtypes of the virus, and it is difficult to tell one type from the other and develop a medicine for each one.

Over-the-counter cold and cough medications sold to adults and children will only kill the symptoms but not the virus. Decongestants and pain relievers offer some symptom relief, but they won’t prevent a cold or shorten its duration, and most have side effects if used for more than a few days.

Prevention is the ONLY way to avoid a common cold. Once attacked, there’s nothing much you can do about it, except rest and wait for it to go. A Cold can be altogether prevented by proper rest, a vitamin-rich diet and Yoga.

Although home remedies like Ginger honey lemon, chicken soup, tomato tea and a boost of Vitamin C may help you recover a little faster,  in the long run if you want to keep these virus at bay,

prevention is your only cure!!

The Truth: About FDA

FOOD AND DRUG ADMINISTRATION

Straight from the horse’s mouth: Here is what the  FDA claims their job is:

The FDA is responsible for protecting the public health by assuring the safety, efficacy, and security of human and veterinary drugs, biological products, medical devices, our nation’s food supply, cosmetics, and products that emit radiation. The FDA is also responsible for advancing the public health by helping to speed innovations that make medicines and foods more effective, safer, and more affordable; and helping the public get the accurate, science-based information they need to use medicines and foods to improve their health.

When a lay person reads this, the most normal reaction is to take a sigh of relief and religiously look for FDA approvals on everything you buy.

For no fault of yours, it’s not your forte! You assume that the FDA is the expert and they will take care of our safety when it comes to food.

Well they don’t !!!

I understand that this is an outrageous claim to make, and most of you are probably thinking “now she’s pushing it too far”  but stay with me and I hope to show you’ll what I see.

Lets take macaroni and cheese, as an example, the type you buy (ready to eat) that you get at all super markets across the world.(India Included).

Below is what the FDA labeling says behind each box.

Enriched Macaroni Product (Wheat Flour, Niacin, Ferrous Sulfate [Iron], Thiamin Mononitrate, Riboflavin, Folic Acid, Cheese Sauce Mix (Whey, Modified Food Starch, Whey Protein Concentrate, Cheddar Cheese [Milk, Cheese Culture, Salt, Enzymes], Granular Cheese [Milk, Cheese Culture, Salt, Enzymes], Salt, Calcium Carbonate, Potassium Chloride, Contains Less than 2% of Parmesan Cheese [Part-Skim Milk, Cheese Culture, Salt, Enzymes], Dried Buttermilk, Sodium Tripolyphosphate, Blue Cheese [Milk, Cheese Culture, Salt, Enzymes], Sodium Phosphate, Medium Chain Triglycerides, Cream, Citric Acid, Lactic Acid, Enzymes, Yellow 5, Yellow 6).

Modified food starch is an additive that increases the bulk of a food. Other additives include potassium chloride that are used instead of salt to decrease the sodium level in foods, sodium tripolyphosphate  is used to maintain moisture, Medium Chain Triglycerides is a substitute for regular oil. Artificial colors yellow 5 & 6 have shown to cause neural problems in some children.

How come all this is not mentioned?

Lets assume that they are aware and are monitoring the quantity of additives and preservatives that are being added, and lets say the FDA makes sure, that the food item does not exceed a certain amount of chemicals in it, there by making it safe to consume.

Heres the catch:

FDA safety standards are calculated per serving, so if you eat one serving of anything that is FDA approved, you would be under the danger limit. but if you eat it everyday, which is what most of us do with products like Oil, chips, cookies, chocolates, bread etc

The chemicals start adding up…. slowly and steadily they poison you !!!

Dyes, bleaches, antioxidants, preservatives, chemical flavors, buffers, noxious sprays, alkalizers, acidifiers, deodorants, moisteners, drying agents, expanders, modifiers, emulsifiers, stabilizers, thickeners, clarifiers, disinfectants, defoliants, fungicides, neutralizers, anticaking and antifoaming agents, hydrolyzers, hydrogenators, synthetic hormones, steroids and four thousand other drugs that just make your mouth water with anticipation, are being used extensively so that food can be standardized, stocked and distributed without rotting !!!

It’s all building up and the biggest proof of this, is the general ill-health in society. We have an epidemic of cancer, obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes, and many other such ailments today.

The mind surely plays a big role in maintaining optimum health, but so does the food you eat !!

The Truth: About Disease

With most people today, fear of disease is greater than the fear of God and understandably so. I was once a part of “most people”.

The fear of disease comes from the way it is used by health care professionals. The fear of disease comes because we are told that a disease can be fatal. The fear of disease comes when we are made to believe we have no control over it. It’s the feeling of being helpless that creates the fear.

I am not going to focus on the role F&B and Pharmaceutical Industries  play in building this fear, even though it’s a BIG part. I will save that for another article as it’s a topic on its own.

I would rather first tell you what disease really is.

DISEASE is nothing more than DIS-EASE

The very word denoting illness contains its own best definition: dis-ease.

Dis-ease is the earliest stage of illness NOT the last.

Dis-ease is another word for discomfort.

Dis-ease may be defined as a state which is not conducive to inner harmony.

Dis-ease is an energetic imbalance, a shift in your natural vitality that is not beneficial.

It is worth seeing how the Thesaurus defines disease and dis-ease.

Dis-ease is a way your body communicates with you. It is important to perceive words like dis-ease correctly, as these are the foundations to building a healthier body. The truth is, that there is only one disease in today’s world, with many different stages, Modern medicine have given these stages many different names. The final stages of dis-ease are cancer, heart attack, strokes and things like that, but nobody wakes up one morning and suffers from these things without experiencing the beginning stages of disease. What happens is that people don’t identify the beginning stages of disease or ignore it and it keeps coming back worse and worse. If you just listen to your body and take correct actions when you feel slight dis-ease, it will never end up being what you believe is disease.

The Truth: About Yoga

Yoga seems to be the IN thing these days, every one around seems to be doing it. How ever, very few know what Yoga really is.

Power yoga, dance Yoga, beauty Yoga and other such self proclaimed yoga classes, DO NOT teach actual yoga.

What is an asana?

An asana is not a posture that you assume mechanically or repeat vigorously. It involves a thoughtful process at the end of which a balance is achieved between movement and resistance. Your weight has to be evenly distributed over muscles, bones, and joints, just as your intelligence must engaged at every level. You have to create space in your muscles and your skin fitting the fine network of your entire body into the asana.

Power yoga on the other hand focuses on repetitions and fast movements, which completely lack any focus on alignment, which invariably leads to a high risk of damaging the spine, sciatic nerves and many more injuries. Their focus is to please people and give them their perception of a perfect workout.

“Hot & High Temperature Yoga” where they put you in a room heated upto  (105 F)which is completely unnatural, and can potentially lead to dehydration.

Dance yoga, power yoga etc are all things started to please the people and have no benefits that yoga truly has to offer.

Any sort of yoga that focuses on making it repetitive and aerobic in nature is NOT real yoga. As given in the yoga texts Asana means “to be”, which means to hold the pose. When the effort of being in a pose becomes effortless you can say you are experiencing true union of mind body and soul!!

The Truth: About Your Body

Your body is not only the temple for your soul, but also the most sophisticated living creation, the most advanced pharmacy, the most accurately functioning mechanism.

If the above sounds true, then what logically follows is that the body should also be capable of curing itself.

IT IS !!!

Continuos pharmaceutical chemical intervention disrupts the biochemistry of the body. We need to stop running to Allopathic Doctors at the drop of a hat, we need to stop empowering them to cure us, we need to stop passing the buck.

We continue to lead unhealthy lives expecting the doctor to correct it with pharmaceutical drugs !!!

Allopathy definitely has its advantages for situations that are extreme, and its is best used as a stepping stone vs a lifestyle. In the long rung if you dont take responsibility and expect western medicine to heal you, think again !!
